HOUSING IN DC/MD/VA WITHOUT BREED RESTRICTIONS

Effective as of March 21, 2025, D.C. Law 25-308 also known as the "Pets in Housing Act of 2024" amends "The Rental Housing Act of 1985" to lower costs for and increase access to pet-friendly rentals within the District. Leases signed in D.C. on or after October 1st, 2025 will be subject to the regulations of pet-security deposits not exceeding 15% of the first month's rent and monthly pet rental fees not exceeding 1% of the first month's rent. Leases signed in D.C. on or after October 1st, 2026 require landlords to not charge a larger fee or exclude potential residents based on the pet's breed, size, or weight.
