For years, it has been illegal to own pit bulls in Prince George's County, Maryland. Now, a new bill being introduced would make them legal, but it doesn't come without stiffened fines, as 7News Brad Bell reports.

Prince George's County is advancing a bill that would reverse the controversial ban on pitbulls and add provisions.

A new bill before the County Council would end the decades-old ban on pit bull terriers — the only one of its kind in the region. Supporters say the ban costs millions to enforce and unfairly targets certain dogs, while critics point to safety concerns after recent incidents.

If passed, the bill would replace the ban with stricter leash laws, owner training, and permit requirements.
